A very short story (no title yet)

She smiles. He smiles back. Nervous, but excited at the same time. He takes her hand. Fumbles. They both giggle. Novices in this game. A game of love, honour and dedication. They’ve got too many people to please, too many questions to answer, but for now it’s just the two of them, alone, as they stare into the dark night, wondering what awaits them.

The whistle blows.

They walk in. Hand in hand. The crowd cheers them on. A new duo, fighting against the more experienced ones.

Eyes closed, they take their place on the stage.

The music begins.

They jive. A minute, two and then 10. As the music reaches a forte, so does their movements, quick steps, swirls, turns, more action on the dance floor. The crows claps on to a perfect rhythm.

Then it all ends. Suddenly. The music, the dancing. And this time no fumble. He holding her tight, they both on top of the world.

Glad, they walk out, hand in hand to a huge applause as the judges bend down to fill up that sheet of paper – the verdict.
